Chilyapa Lwando – Untitled

Nakulubantu is Grandmother or our ancestors. Its a way of celebration our history because for me they are the custodians of our past and  as in most cases in Africa our history is orally past on. This is a way to give due respect to our elders. In  Chilyapa Lwando – Nakulubantu, Chilyapa Lwando derived his inspiration from the aesthetics and excellence of the antiquity of African images and imitating them, creating works full of designs from ancient  pieces just like Picasso and his contemporaries. The idea is to schematically depict individuals or groups with very few characteristic features but which says a lot about the subject .This is a means for him to show individuals or groups using symbols and patterns from African images.

The basic  underlying theme the paintings of Chilyapa Lwando is inspired by African traditions and culture. His idea is to put forward  an awareness of African art to the rest of the world and a way to celebrate, educate and reinforce his own sense of self as well as explore and preserve some of our traditions and culture.

Chilyapa Lwando derived his inspiration from the aesthetics and excellence of the antiquity of African images and imitating them, creating works full of designs from ancient  pieces just like Picasso and his contemporaries. The idea is to schematically depict individuals or groups with very few characteristic features but which says a lot about the subject .This is a means for him to show individuals or groups using symbols and patterns from African images. This result in creating generalised images that uses stereotyped features to represent an individual or group who can be recognised by the images’ context.
