Horcelie Sinda Wa Mbongo was born in Kinshasa, Congo and moved to London in 2004. She is yet to obtain her post-graduate degree at Sothebyβs Institute of Art in Contemporary Art. She holds a Bachelor degree at Chelsea College of Art and Foundation degree in Fine Painting at Central Saint Martins.
Sindaβs work explores the influence of Christianity, African Spirituality and Identity in the Congo, DRC. She began her exploration of identity through the medium of photography and drawing whilst in college. She incorporates other mediums such as thread and fabric, to explore the relationship between the self and Yahweh. Through photography, she continues her search of the interrelation of the sublime, time and belief. Using mixed media in her practice expands the notion of representing oneβs spiritual experience and art.Β Sinda also works with found images of Black people to assemble the past and present of African history.
Horcelie is Contributing writer at Made in Bed Magazine, writing to expand the discussion of African art. She is a devoted servant of God, serving at Ebenezer Evangelical Church.
